![]() ![]() ![]() Oh, and obviously there's also a global leader board for those with a more competitive streak.Īs someone who is often glued to Strava and Garmin Connect, all this data is gloriously indulgent. But the insoles and app also gather data on every lift you rode, the GPS route you took down and every single turn you made on the hill.Īnd you can deep dive into data on individual turns, looking at balance, edging, rotation and pressure. There's basic stats, including skied distance, descent, max speed (51 mph if you're wondering) and even the total number of turns. The amount of data available is mind boggling. The app gets really smart, however, when you start to delve into your own ski performance. I find wearing earbuds with a ski helmet quite uncomfortable, so I opted for a pair of Wildhorn Alta Bluetooth headphones, which fit seamlessly inside the earpads of my beloved lid.Ĭarv sends a wealth of data to your phone for valuable performance insights. In order to make the most of Carv, and benefit from the real-time coaching, you will need to wear headphones (or a single earbud) as you ski. Once I'd added various age/weight/height details to the app, and made sure my headphones were connected, I was ready to ski. And because the insole slides under the boot's liner, you can still use Carv with boot warmers, although that will mean adding a second battery pack to your boot straps. The entire setup adds 10.4 ounces to the weight of each boot, which wasn’t going to impact my performance. This means synching to the app via Bluetooth and following a few on-screen instructions to ensure the motion and pressure sensors are working.Īt 3 millimeters thick, I couldn’t feel the insoles, and the battery pack is securely clipped to the ski boot power strap and forgotten once covered by pants. Once the liners have been replaced and the battery pack clipped on the outside of the boot, you’re ready to calibrate. It took me about 15 minutes to get everything sorted, albeit with some help from the Carv team. It's not especially elegant, but the instructions are clear and there's a helpful step-by-step video available on the app. These often need serious manhandling, but once removed, you stick down the insole and tape the flat cable to the side of the boot using the supplied adhesive strips. The hardest aspect in fact is removing your ski boot liner. ![]() Carv is intuitive to use, and while setup takes a bit of time, it isn't complicated. ![]()
